<Poem>

<Translation>
North and south of the cottage, spring floods abound;
Day by day my only visitors are gulls.
Before today I never swept the path of fallen petals 00
But now my thatched door's opened— just for you.
So far from town, the food is very plain.
00 And all we have to drink is this home brew.
If you like, I'll call across the fence to my old neighbour 000
To help us finish off the last few drops!
